About the Humanitarian Logistics Certification Programmes
HLCP OVERVIEW
The Humanitarian Logistics Certification Program (HLCP), including the CHL, CHSCM and MedLog certifications, is a unique initiative developed through collaboration among key humanitarian actors, such as INGOs, the UN, and the Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies.
This program reflects the best practices of commercial supply chain management, tailored specifically for the complexities of humanitarian operations.
The HLCP courses are designed around a competence-based model, emphasizing practical application over traditional exams. Learners are immersed in realistic scenarios where they are required to complete tasks that mirror real-life challenges faced in the field. These tasks can be completed independently or with the guidance of a coach for more complex situations.
Learning materials are available to support learners, and feedback is provided either by an assigned coach or through the e-learning system, depending on the course.
PATH TO PROFESSIONALIZATION
The HLCP courses are designed to guide learners through a progressive journey toward professionalization in humanitarian logistics. The curriculum is built around a flexible, competence-based model that links learning directly with on-the-job experience.
Rather than traditional exams, candidates demonstrate their competencies by completing practical tasks for each unit. This approach ensures that the skills acquired are directly applicable to real-world situations.
HLCP is composed of three specialized certifications, each targeting different levels of logistics and supply chain expertise:
